As we juggle the complexities of work, home and family, is it possible to “relax into” the rat race, to run it on our own terms?

Don’t try to escape the Rat Race!

Rat Race Relaxer is not a book about escaping the rat race; in my opinion, the rat race is inescapable.  It is also not an attempt to help you build a more perfect life or a guide about how to leave all your stress behind. Instead, it is a journey to learn more about who you are and a toolbox to build skills that can help you deal more effectively within the chaos of an imperfect system.

Our perceived powerlessness amid the myriad of available choices is what most often leads us to believe that the rat race can never be run on our own terms. On my journey, I discovered how to stop running, to relax into my unique path and to enjoy my individuality. I stopped letting the rat race run me and instead began using my skills to navigate through the maze of life. This book is a compilation of how I learned to love my life, imperfections and all.

52 simple, actionable “keys”  —one for every week of the year—

ª      Find new meaning in your current job

ª      Deal more effectively within an imperfect system

ª      Navigate the uncertain maze of the future on your own terms

ª      Discover what you are truly racing toward

ª      Expose the specific areas of your life causing unhealthy levels of stress

ª      Capitalize on your individuality

ª      RELAX into your unique life path

JoAnna Carey, author of “Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life" shows you how to tackle the rat race head-on and turn it into a race that can be run – and won – by charting your own course rather than navigating someone else’s.  “And as you navigate the maze," Carey advises, " the ability to be yourself -- an original -- can provide a competitive edge.”

What makes Rat Race Relaxer an enjoyable, thought-provoking journey that reads like a storybook?  Fifty-two simple, actionable keys – one for every week of the year – aimed at helping readers discover what they truly want and how to incorporate them into their daily lives.          BUY NOW!

Chapter 40

Right-size your life

Does your life as it stands make you happy?  Are you overextended financially, emotionally, mentally, physically, or all of the above?  Are there things in your life that you are attached to simply to buffer the pain of your unfulfilled desires? Is there a long list of things you would love to do – such as take a vacation, go back to school, exercise or sleep in more often – if only you had the time or money? Or are you rewarding yourself with BELONGINGS because you are stressed out or unhappy with life situations? Are you always keeping score by measuring what you have as compared with your significant other, family, friends, or neighbors?  Maybe it’s time to reflect upon your life and decide which areas of your life need growth and which areas you’ve outgrown.

This Week’s Key To Unlock Your Potential:

Right-sizing your life is one of the key components of forging a path that is custom-tailored to your needs.  If you think you are living beyond your financial, physical, familial or spiritual needs, consider some of the practical ways that you can begin making necessary changes to your life.  Look at the family budget, talk to your employer about flexible scheduling options, consider doing without some luxury, or find a way to incorporate more enjoyable activities into your days.  This week is about capturing an aerial view of what you have been racing toward and choosing which of these paths you will continue to explore.
